Tantivy Pump Station – EI&C Infrastructure Upgrade
Project Overview
The Tantivy Street Pump Station upgrade is a significant infrastructure enhancement for Brisbane’s wastewater network. Delivered in partnership with Downer, the project focused on the complete overhaul and modernisation of the station’s electrical, instrumentation and control systems to ensure long-term reliability, seamless integration with SCADA systems and full compliance with Urban Utilities’ technical standards.
- Client Queensland Urban Utilities
- Location Greater Brisbane Region, QLD
Scope of Works
The project’s primary goal was to deliver a fully functional, modern sewer pump station with resilient EI&C systems, while safely decommissioning the legacy infrastructure.
Key deliverables:
- Supply, installation, testing and commissioning of new main switch board, MCC and VSD panel.
- Field installation: pump cabling disconnection boxes, remote switching panels, metering systems.
- Full instrumentation package: level transmitters, probes, pressure instruments, flowmeter connection.
- Programming and commissioning of Motorola ACE RTU and Redlion HMI for SCADA integration.
- Installation of new lightning protection and earthing systems.
- Complete site-wide cabling and cable management infrastructure.
- New site lighting, socket outlets and antenna mast.
- Safe decommissioning of existing electrical and SCADA systems.
- Full test plan development, FAT/SAT execution and commissioning in accordance with Urban Utilities’ TMS standards.
Innovation & Execution Strategy
To deliver this complex scope within a live utility environment, CV implemented a well-orchestrated project delivery strategy:
- Design-Aligned Execution – Coordination with stakeholders to align control system programming, site installation and energisation activities.
- Site Safety & Compliance – Careful planning of construction access and crowd-fenced work zones ensured minimal risk throughout delivery.
- System Integration – Seamless connection to Urban Utilities’ SCADA system: new pages, tags, historian point updates and bench testing of integrated control system.
- Smart Commissioning – Real-time load testing, backup verification and control system simulations conducted under actual site conditions to validate performance.
Outcomes & Impact
- Modernised Systems: Integrated, robust and compliant electrical and controls.
- Operational Continuity: Strategic planning ensured no disruption to the network.
