Port of Brisbane – Pinkenba Wharf Fire System Upgrade

Project Overview

CV successfully delivered a major fire system upgrade for the Port of Brisbane at the Pinkenba Common User Berth, enhancing the facility’s firefighting capability while supporting increased bulk fuel import capacity. As principal contractor, CV coordinated a multidisciplinary team across engineering, project management, building, plumbing, electrical and fire services to deliver a comprehensive solution that strengthened safety, operational resilience and compliance across the wharf. Throughout the project, the berth remained fully operational, with works carefully planned and executed to minimise disruption to port activities.

Scope of Works

CV provided end-to-end design coordination, construction management and commissioning services for the wharf’s upgraded fire protection infrastructure. The project delivered a high-capacity, remotely operated firefighting system designed to provide rapid response capability across critical operational areas.

Key deliverables:

  • Construction of a 4 metre high, 24 metre long fire barrier capable of withstanding extreme heat exposure for up to two hours.
  • Installation of water oscillating hydrant monitors delivering 1,800 litres per minute at 7 bar pressure.
  • Installation of a foam/water monitor mounted on a 12 metre tower, delivering 5,250 litres per minute at 10 bar pressure.
  • Deployment of tower-mounted deluge sprayers delivering 405 litres per minute at 4 bar pressure.
  • Delivery of a robust firefighting water supply system with a capacity of 10,800 litres per minute.
  • Installation of six remotely controlled deluge valves to improve operational response and control.
  • Integration of remote security camera monitoring across each wharf area.
  • Provision of 13,000 litres of firefighting foam concentrate to support emergency response requirements.
